§1How the set is put together

The stencilfolio editors tagged these designs for women: subjects they expect women to look for most, such as flowers, butterflies, moons, mandalas, hearts and small pets, many in fine line. The tag is for browsing, not a rule, and anyone can print any design. The FW designs were drawn for this set; the rest also sit on their motif pages.

About two in three are tiny or small, 4 inches or under by default. The page opens in the Stencil format for transfer paper. Outline prints the same line for tracing, and the flash version of this set shows each design in color.

§2Feminine mandala stencils

Mandala comes from the Sanskrit word for circle. It is a geometric arrangement of symbols from Indian religions, used to mark out a sacred space and as an aid to meditation. A tattoo borrows the layout, not the ritual: a center with petals repeating around it in rings.

FW-04 Sternum mandala with lotus: a wide, symmetrical mandala with a lotus, a crescent moon at the center and beaded drops hanging below. It is drawn for the breastbone; the placement filter lists it under Chest.
FW-05 Small petal mandala: a round mandala of petals at 3 in, the only one of the four marked for beginners.
FL-09 Lotus mandala and R-07 Mandala rose: detailed, about 5 in, for the chest or back.

Symmetry shows every slip. Artists mark landmarks such as the collarbone or spine with a skin pen, line the stencil up to the marks and check it with you standing, because a design that looks centered while you lie down can read differently once you get up. See the stencil application guide.

§3Flower stencils for women

Flowers are the largest group here. Roses run from R-09 Tiny rose outline and R-03 Rose bud, both sized for a wrist, to R-08 Rose vine wrap, a 7 in stem for a forearm or thigh, and R-11 Japanese rose, drawn like a peony. For the peony itself, take FL-07 Neo-traditional peony; peonies also frame FW-03 Snake and peonies and CT-12 Cat head with peonies. FL-02 Lotus on water is the bold traditional lotus. For wildflowers, look at FL-03 Wildflower bouquet, CR-04 Cross with wildflowers and FW-01 Crescent moon on a wildflower stem. Meanings are on the flower stencils page.

The hand has no row: neither chart gives it a size. Designs marked for the hand include R-09, FL-04, BF-03, HT-03, FW-07, FW-10, CT-02 Cat face outline and DG-09 Paw print in a heart. Agree on the size with your artist.

§5Questions

Q1Are these tattoo stencils only for women?

No. The tag is an editors’ shortcut for browsing and doesn’t limit who prints what. It doesn’t overlap with the men’s tag either, so the stencils for men are a separate set of designs.

Q2Which simple tattoo stencils for women are easiest?

Closed shapes with few lines: HT-11 Simple heart outline, FL-12 Five-petal flower, BF-10 Simple butterfly outline and FW-10 Traditional cherries, all under 2 inches. More on the easy tattoo stencils page.

Q3Is there a sternum or spine tattoo stencil?

For the sternum, FW-04 Sternum mandala with lotus, 5.5 in by default; filter by Chest to see it next to other chest pieces. This set has no tall design drawn to run down the spine.
